If you’re one of the people who’s been enjoying Candy Crush Soda Saga on Facebook, you may have noticed something about the game that’s different from regular Candy Crush. No, we’re not talking about the new boosters or play modes–we’re referring to the soundtrack. While the original Candy Crush music was entirely made with synthesizers, King Games has hired actual musicians to record the soundtrack for Candy Crush Soda Saga. In fact, they hired some of the best musicians in Europe: the London Symphony Orchestra.
TouchArcade has a video on the subject, which you can watch here. In it, we meet Gareth Davies, the orchestra’s principal flautist, who was quite enthusiastic about the recording:
The music to the last game was synthesizers and computer generated stuff, so it’s nice…this one is going to be bigger and better…I imagine that the game itself is going to be more epic.
We hate to burst your bubble (heh), Mr. Davies, but it’s not. Candy Crush Soda Saga is the same game, with some tweaks, the most obvious being upward-floating candies. The game takes place in the same world, with the same characters and the same type of story. Not much can possibly said to be new–although we did get another shade and shape of blue candy, which is somewhat interesting and makes the game harder.
No, Mr. Davies, you and the rest of your orchestra are clearly the highlight of this game. As composer and arranger Johan Holmstrom says,
The orchestra brings a much more organic sound, since we did all the stings, all the music, all the diorama music. It’s going to feel like this is something luxury [sic].
Having played Candy Crush Soda Saga ourselves, we can definitely confirm that the soundtrack is luxurious. We even left it on in the background while writing this article! It’s the one time you’ll be better off leaving the King music on than leaping to your Spotify playlist. We hope that this is one trend King continues.
