The best way to bring down the candies is use the right side of the board and avoid the isolated columns. Create as many special candies in the more spacious right side of the board. Combine the special candies to make power-ups and bring down the ingredients faster.

The isolated columns do bring down 10-move candy bombs. Only make moves in the columns if the bombs are about to detonate. There really isn't any other reason to move in those columns unless there is a vertical striped cany in one of them.
